The first synthetic wig product that every synthetic wig wearer needs is going to be a synthetic wig safe shampoo and conditioner comb, I’ll take you through my favorites and why i love them.

Since synthetic wigs don’t receive any nutrients or oils from your scalp, it’s important to have a shampoo and conditioner that will replace the moisture that the hair needs to stay fresh and detangled.

It’s also non-porous, which means that none of the product is absorbed into the hair and it’s more prone to product buildup, meaning we need something really light and weightless in order to avoid weighing the hair down, that means we also want products that will deposit a layer of moisture, rather than requiring the moisture to be absorbed into the hair.

And since synthetic wigs are made from synthetic hair fibers, they are very very thin and delicate, which makes them more prone to breakage and it’s very important to have a shampoo and conditioner that’s very very gentle.

So because of all this it’s really important to have a shampoo and conditioner, that is specifically for a synthetic wig, i personally love the estetica cleanse and clarify and the nourish renew shampoo and conditioner products, but if you prefer a leave-on conditioner i also like the jon renau hd fiber love leave-on conditioner which is a spray and it is very very light and weightless.

Get in the comb zone

The next must-have product for synthetic wigs is going to be a detangling brush, that is safe for synthetic fibers, when we’re talking about synthetic fibers, especially a piece like this that has curls and waves in it, if you stretch or you pull too hard on these synthetic fibers, you can really damage the texture of them.

So i actually comb curly wigs like this as little as possible, i accept some amount of tangling, but it’s inevitable you’re going to have to comb your wig, the best way to do that is going to be with a wide tooth comb, i prefer wide tooth combs that are plastic, because i feel like they have a little bit more give to them.

The one that i love is this one here by jon renau, it is the perfect size to throw in my purse or i keep one in my car as well, but i also have a whole bunch of these around my house, so that anytime my wig needs a little refresh, i grab some detangling spray and i give it a quick combing and my wig looks just as beautiful.

You do not want to use a brush, a round brush, a boar’s head brush or anything like that on a synthetic wig, because those are going to pull too much and it could damage the styling and it also could cause shedding of your synthetic wig, nobody wants that. so if you want your wig to last as long as possible, you want to damage it as little as possible while combing and a comb like this is just the ticket.

The best wig is a dry one

The next must-have synthetic wig product is going to be one of wig stand or some way to dry your synthetic wig, this is going to be possibly different than the way that you’re going to store your synthetic wig, what you really want is something like this wig stand that has a lot of airflow to allow your synthetic wig to dry.

You never want to store a synthetic wig while it’s wet, even if the fibers feel like they are dry, if the cap is even a little bit wet. You could get things like mold or icky things growing inside your wig and nobody wants that, so a wig stand like this, even if you don’t store your wigs on it for the long term is really great, because it gives you a lot of airflow to allow your wigs to dry.

It also kind of protects that cap shape, while your wig is drying. Some people like to dry their wigs flat, some people like to dry them upside down for lots of volume, everybody is going to be a little bit different, but this type of wig stand is one that i love.

Because i like my wigs to have more of a sleek look and kind of fall in a more natural downward direction. This type of wig stand is perfect and the best thing about it is it is collapsible. So when i go on a trip and i want to take my wigs with me.

I don’t know that i’m going to have a good place to hang them or store them in my hotel room, a wig stand like this is perfect. because it fits easily in my suitcase and i have a great safe place for my wig through my trip, these are also super inexpensive.

Spray all day

The next must-have synthetic wig product is going to be sprays, that help extend the life of your fibers and there are two sprays that i absolutely love.

I have a hd smooth detangling spray by jon renau, that is almost like a leave-in conditioner, that has a detangling and i like to be able to spray that anytime. I’m going to be combing out my wig and i find that it does leave some product build up but not a lot, not enough that it would make me not want to stop using it as often as i do.

The product is the jon renau hd smooth detangling spray, but any kind of detangling spray specific for synthetic wigs is going to be fine, what you don’t want to use is a detangling spray that’s meant for human hair or for kids, those types of products may contain chemicals that can damage these synthetic fibers.Because these fibers are made of plastic, they are not actual hair they’re not porous like hair, we have to use products that are different for synthetic hair

The next product that i love is a 100% silicone spray, i love this because it really gives my synthetic wigs the soft feeling, that you get when they’re straight out of the package, for me i do wear my synthetic wigs as long as possible.I really find that they do start to dry out every time you wash your wig, you are removing some of that silicone coating from your synthetic wigs, so i do like a daily spray of a 100% silicone mist.

Every three washes or so i will follow up with a totally deep conditioning using the bamboo silicone mix, i coat it really thoroughly in this bamboo silicone mix, i put it in a ziploc bag overnight, so a lot of that silicone really has a chance to stick to these fibers, then i rinse it off in cold water and that gives my wig a big boost of hydration, even though none of the product is being absorbed into the fibers, it is coating the fibers with a protective layer of silicone and it gives it that soft silky finish we all love.

Seriously secure

and my absolute most favorite favorite product for a synthetic wig is going to be a wig grip band,  this little band here is going to keep your wig on, through just about anything, i chase my kids i go on the swings i drive with the windows down.

A wig grip band if you have hair if you don’t have hair, it gives you a little bit of extra security, even if you have a very well made wig, a wig grip band is going to help secure this wig on it’s going to prevent it from pulling backwards.

It is going to give you a comfortable fit, without having to use glue and adhesive, because every time you use glue and adhesive a little bit of it gets stuck into the lace, you’re going to have to wash that out and the more times you wash your wig, the more it’s going to deteriorate and you want to try and avoid that as much as possible, so if you can use a non-adhesive way to secure your wig, it’s going to help it last a little bit longer.
